Tire Pressure Light (TPMS)
The TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) light comes on if your tire pressure is too low, too high or there is a system malfunction. This can lead to undue tire wear and possible tire failure.
The first thing to do is to find a tire pressure station (we have one!) and manually check your tire pressure. If it’s low, add air until the pressures reach the recommended PSI listed on the driver’s door or door jam.
Tire pressure light goes on and off
When tire pressure is near the level that triggers an alert, fluctuating temperatures may cause your TPMS light to turn on and off. This happens a lot during the fall and spring months in Cleveland when temperatures drop overnight. The light may turn off as the day gets warmer and/or from the heat generated from driving your vehicle. Today’s vehicles need frequent calibration after tire replacement or air pressure adjustment. Refer to your owner’s manual for more information.
Tire pressure flashes then stays on
If the tire pressure light flashes for 60-90 seconds every time you start your car and then remains lit, this means the TPMS isn’t functioning properly and you should request an appointment with a certified auto repair shop for an inspection.
